Summer of Barbie

This was a rare summer where I played a lot of strictly vinyl events. Here’s a list of standout records that got played, tested, and probably misplaced in the process. – Alfredo

DJ Chrysalis & Regularfantasy - “Life In Plastic” (version 7 mix)

Got this record in the midst of the Barbie movie hype this summer. As always, the internet remains undefeated and so was this play on the Aqua joint. Shouts to Planet B who asked for track ID the next time we saw him in New York after I’d played it at Bring Dat Ass.

Nick Leon – Xtasis (featuring DJ Babatr)

Produced by Miami’s Nick Leon, Xtasis features DJ Babatr, the legendary Venezuelan DJ and founder of Raptor House, who also recently did a remix for our bud Amadeezy. You’re gonna hear the words “Raptor House” a lot in the next year. Shouts to Symposium Records in RI. This was a hard record to find in the U.S.

HAVE A NICE DAY – Caribbean Sea

European Edits that don’t suck pt. 1: The A-Side “Dominican Republic” got a lot of play this Summer. A no-BS edit of a Proyecto Uno classic, this one moved every dance floor it got played on. For more modern reinterpretations of Proyecto Uno, go get Toribio’s (see page43) ACID-808-RAVE-READY “No Pare” from his Tongue In Cheeks EP.

Bosq & Kaleta – Sonayon / Meji Meji

I ran into Bosq at a fast-casual vegetarian joint this summer. Hadn’t seen him or talked to him in years as helives in Colombia now. We sat down for about 45 minutes. Glad we got to chat and catch up and because it also reminded me that I really like playing his records. This recent one is fantastic.

HAVE A NICE DAY – Baleariche Grammophon 01

European Edits that don’t suck pt. 2: This one completely surprised me. An edit of Gypsy Kings “Bamboleo” that never actually says the word “Bamboleo.” Balearic to the nth degree, this one got a reaction from babies, world renowned selectors, and Sacha didn’t hate it—the true test right there. 114 BPM, mixes perfectly with. . .nah, that’s for you to find out!
